Trying to Connect Thermostatic Shower but Pipes in Wall too far Apart

Hi,
We are trying to connect the thermostat part of the shower to the pipe connectors in the wall, however the connectors are too far apart, by quite a bit. We've tried using the 's' adapters but still they are too far apart. Any help on how we could connect them without ripping the wall down and having to move the pipes will be a huge help.
(Sorry if any of the names/words above are incorrect, haven't a clue, just trying to find a solution to help a rather stressed out husband)
