Bathroom Ventilation and Fitting new Inline Extractor Fan

Hi, we have just started a bathroom refurb at home.. and previously for 5/6 the extractor was not working.. however we would like to fit a new one an inline type in the ceiling..
We do have an existing vent tile in the roof direct above where the extractor fan would go the builder is talking about ducting too this vent tile approx a 1.2m run of duct..
3 questions..
1. Does this sound like a suitable option
2. Is there likely to be any issues with the duct running vertically
3. Do we need to connect to the vent tile or will this work if the duct finishes just below the vent tile say 50mm
Other option is to have no extractor
Thanks
