What are Chrome Caps for on Either Side of new Toilet?

Could someone please tell me what the chrome caps (wholes) are for, they are on both sides of my new toilet ?Thanks

I assume you are referring to holes close the base of the toilet, in which case they are for the fixings that secure the pan to the floor. The chrome caps hide the screws/bolts once they are fitted.
If you don't secure the pan, it will rock and cause leakage from the waste.

Thanks but l was referring to the chrome caps up on both sides of the toilet pan, not the screw holes that secures the pan to the floor.
