Advice on Water Softener Drain

Hi,
I need some advice on how to best fit this drain pipe from the water softener to the waste pipe.
This system was fitted around 2 years ago and haven’t had any problems but think it got knocked and now when the water softener drains the water spills out from the top of where the drain pipe is connected to the waste pipe.
Do I need some sort of connecter? (Attached in the image)
