Toilet continues to fill cistern after flushing

Hi
Pretty sure we need to call a plumber but thought I would check here first incase it’s something we might be able to do

Our toilet continues to fill from the cistern after flushing and sometimes when the tap or shower is running (sometimes just randomly too) . It doesn’t overflow in the toilet it just keeps flowing in.
Picture of the inside attached - I wasn’t sure if it’s the blue thing on the left that needs adjusting?
We also now have a drip leak from the pipe that feeds to the blue thing (circled in red) but that could be where we jiggled the blue thing- maybe we have loosened it at the bottom?

Thanks for any help you can give !

Hi lucyd
Tighten the nut closest to the cistern not too much, to hopefully stop the leak. The cistern must be overflowing into the pan, turn the screw which sticks up and is part of the blue thing - not sure which way but just experiment.

Thank you for replying, I did try the screw on the blue thing in both directions - it moved the float (the part under the screw) up / down but didn’t stop the water flowing into the pan - the water seems to be coming up to the screw on the blue thing even when adjusting the float but I think it should stop before then? Will try again tomorrow

Thanks again!

Hi lucyd
Try adjusting the float downwards and leave for a few seconds (maybe 10) you may have an equilibrium valve which takes a while to react.
