Deep notches in joists

Hi,

We are getting a new bathroom fitted and as part of the work is changing the plumbing.

Notches have been made into the joists, but they look too deep, they are half the depth of the joists.

Should I be worried? I am reading this might go against regulations. What are my options knowing damage has already been done to 4 joists.

Thank you for any advice you could provide

Hi fr2uk
That is one hell of a 'notch', presumably 40mm waste pipes are going to be run in the 'notches'. Suggest you insist that the joists be reinforced by fitting supplementary joists under the existing ones, glued to them and bolted through old and new. One bolt should be fitted at the wall plate end and at least two bolts the other side of the 'notch'.
Regards S
