Blown vanity unit after exposure to water but what to do

Hi there, can anyone help: we purchased a vanity unit from Victoria Plum, it looked pretty bad after only a few months use (“splash proof” item that expanded and cracked significantly) They sent us a replacement cabinet but I don’t want to install it if the same thing will happen again, has anyone ever sprayed one of these (or similar) with a mat varnish or should I just junk the wretched thing and get a carpenter to build a new unit using real wood!?

Hi gknowlestv
All the units I have ever fitted were made from MDF with a foil skin on them. The weak spot is the join around the edges so I don’t think your new unit will fare any better. I don’t think varnishing will help but perhaps a coat of clear beeswax polish along the joins may extend the life of the unit.
