Hansgrohe Shower Dripping - Nuts Too Big?

Our Hansgrohe thermostatic bar shower was fitted by the previous homeowners about 20 years ago. It has been dripping from the on/off valve for some time now. We keep putting off getting it sorted due to being unable to get any local plumbers (Stockport area) to come and have a look at it.

Two handymen have tried to help by taking it off and showing it to a couple of plumbers merchants, but both said the existing nuts (1 3/4”) on the wall pipework are too big?!

I am reluctant to rip off all the tiling and have new pipework installed if there is a possibility of fitting a washer to the existing shower, or being able to source a replacement that fits.

Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance…

Nicola

Hi Nicola b,
You’ve done well to get this far but it would be best to get in a plumber to sort it out. It may be that bushes have to be fitted to match the fitting in the wall to the new shower valve.

Thanks for replying. I’ve contacted three local plumbers in the last few months and none actually turned up! I think the job is too small and they’re not interested, hence me trying a couple of handymen…

Hi Nicola b,
I’m sorry but if you cannot get tradespeople to turn up I don’t know where you go. Perhaps if you say you want a new shower bar you may get an attendance due to the potential extra ‘profit’ for the tradesperson.
