Bathroom recess issue with tiles coming off Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

Hi, I have quite an urgent issue with the recess in my bathroom.
As seen from the pictures, the tiles around the recess seem to be pushing out/ coming off. The bottom tile within the recess has already come off. I'm worried about the rest of the tiles surrounding the recess.
Can anyone advise what may have caused this and what can be done to fix this?

Hi ace00,
If the tiles are smooth on the back or the wrong adhesive has been used then adhesion could be the problem. If the recess is an old chimney opening then damp and salts from chimney itself may be the cause of the problem. You will have to investigate.
