How do I remove this shower cartridge for replacement?

My shower unit is not mixing cold water with hot. Water flows at good pressure but it's permanently on max heat. My local plumber could not find a way to remove the cartridge for inspection/replacement. Unfortunately, I don't have a record of the make/model to discover how this should be done.
Please can you attempt to identify it from the pictures and/or suggest how to proceed. Thank you.

Hi hunterd,
You will need a ring spanner tool with projections on it to match the machining on the third ring (includes the body) from the outside.

Thanks for the reply. Is that a tool I should expect a local plumber to have or will I need to identify the make/model before calling someone in?

Hi hunterd,
I doubt your local plumber will have such a thing but you never know. In the absence of a special spanner I suspect it will be undone using a hammer and punch.

Thanks. That knowledge will be useful - I can send the photo out to several local guys and ask them "Can you tackle this and how would you do it?"

Hi hunterd,
The biggest problem you or a tradesperson will have is identifying the shower valve and obtaining the right replacement cartridge. As you suggest you could send pictures round to local plumbers and see if they can identify the manufacturer, obtain parts and fit them - you may be lucky.
