Soakaway advice please for garage flat roof

Hi all, I'm hoping someone will be able to advise me on the best way of dealing with the rainwater from a flat garage roof? The garage is approx. 5.6m x 5.4m and has a single run of guttering at the rear of the garage. I need to replace the guttering and want to know the best way of running off the surface water. As far as I can tell, there was no soakaway previously, the downpipe just had an elbow fitted on the end and the water ran onto the paving.
I'm guessing the correct way to do it though would be to have a soakaway crate or maybe a french drain? Also, would using a water butt make any difference as to which solution is best?
Your advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks
