We have an upstairs toilet and the hot tap is loose, causing annoying loud vibrations through the pipework. It's worse when water runs elsewhere in the house (e.g. toilets flushed, shower used), but does it sometimes as well when nothing else is in use. It is also leaking inconsistently, allowing a steady trickle of water.

Any ideas what this could be, or would it be simpler/easier/cheaper to just replace the tap(s)? I've never done anything plumbing-related, but I've been told replacing taps is fairly straightforward with patience and the right tools.

Definitely better to fit new but from experience this is frequently not the simple job it should be. Check you can turn off the water supply to the tap before you go any further and make sure any replacement tap is suited to your supply pressure.
