Staining Behind New(ish) shower sealant

Hi - hope someone can offer some opinions.

This shower has only been in for 11 months and we are starting to see staining behind the sealant between tray to tiles. Hopefully the photos show enough close up detail.

Is this moisture getting in?

Should the tiles have been “sealed” prior to the sealant being laid to stop any moisture getting past?

Any suggestions for a solution? Would stripping it back to bare be one? If we do is there anything else we should be doing?

Hi andysea,
It looks like you have tiles with a rough porous surface. If this is correct your theory that water is getting behind the sealant bead may be correct. You could try cutting back the silicone bead and treating the tiles with sealant but since the shower has been used soap residues will be present which will make the sealant less effective.
Suggest you remove the old silicone bead, treat the area with a mould killer and apply a new mildew resistant silicone bead in an opaque colour to tone in with the tiles.
