Hi, am I correct in saying that I can run appliances rated at 1800W using 13A cable? The cable length will be approx 10 metres. My calculations give a current of about 8.2A working on a mains voltage of 220V.

I would assume you mean 1.25mm² flexible cords which will have 37 mV/A/m volt drop 1800W at 230 volt = 7.82 amps = 2.89 volts drop over 10 meters or 0.37 ohms all of which falls within the parameters laid out in both 16th and 17th edition and the code of practice for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment so yes you were correct in what you said. The only slight thing is we work on 230 volts as norm not 220 volts assuming you live in Europe. Although I have compared with UK harmonised rules with Europe. I assume you wish to prove to someone else which is why I include calculations.

Thanks for your reply. I do not know why I used 220V instead of 230V, must be because I'm Welsh. Anyway, you have answered my question, I was just concerned about the safety factor really.
