cable tracking

what is the best way of tracking a cable from one end of the house to another? with the power off can i put it to earth at one end & use an audible meter at the other end? if so what meter do i need? (on a budget keep it cheap)

geffers123,
You need a something to connect the cables together i.e. connection block. cost penny's
and a meter to test continuity. A multimeter will do that, about a tenner.
Then connect each conductor at a time to each other, Phase to earth, neutral to earth and phase to neutral. one at a time and test at the other end.
