i have installed a bedroom light with fan and now have it working however my bathroom light does not work but its switch seems to operate the new bedroom light. There were 3 wires each with black, red and earth wires on each and one is connected to the switch as it should. I do not understand why the bathroom doesn't work or why the bathroom switch operates the bedroom- confused!

You most likely have got switch return and bathroom neutral mixed up and if you look very careful at bathroom lamp it will be on dim.
