I am having to use 50Hz equipment in a 60Hz system.
I am sure I read somewhere that reducing the supply voltage will prevent any damage to the equipment.
Can anyone advise me on appropriate actions to be taken?

It all depends on what equipment. Motors often run faster most transformers have no problem and any switch mode supply will be unaffected. And of course with the modern switch mode inverters changing from 60 to 50Hz is not a problem. As to voltages changes unlikely to help.
