under stairs light

please help.. im wanting to put a light and light switch in an under stairs cupboard .The consumer unit is also sited in the above mentioned cupboard ,can i wire direct from the unit ? I could spur from a near socket but this would mean disturbing plaster and wallpaper which i dont want to do.

Hi leaving aside the legal implications of connecting to the consumer unit...
if turned off at its main switch, with care & a torch! you can run from an existing lighting circuits fuse/mcb in the con. unit connecting the neutral to the correct circuit as well, likewise the cpc(earth).
Use 1.0/1.5 cable not flex to run to light position then on to switch,
circuit is under 'projects' section of forum with drawings to help.
