Please can someone tell me in really basic terms how to change a single light switch for a double one so that I can use 2 ceiling lights independantly of each other. Many thanks

You just change the wiring in lamp one to give constant feed to lamp two then run a new cable from lamp two to second switch.
To give any more we would need existing circuit diagram.
