Hi, i have brought a new light fitting to go into the kitchen to replace the existing Strip Light, i have turned all the power off and have taken the strip light down and have wired up the new light correctly, but when i turn on the mains it trips out, i have double checked the wiring and it is all ok, i have wired up the new light fitting to a plug to see if that was ok and it is, could anyone give me some idea of why this is doing this, Thanks

This is guess of course but most lamps have power in, power out, and switch cables. If the switch cable is connected colour for colour with the other two then this will be a short circuit. The return from switch should be line colour or have line colour sleeve but these often fall off.
But that will not be the problem if as you say it is wired correctly!
