Bathroom fan keeps breaking, help I'm on my third one!

Hi,
I have an interesting problem with my bathroom fan! I have installed two bathroom fans (of different makes) and both have stopped working within 2 days. They seam to slow down to a crawl and make a lot of struggling noises then clunk their dead!
The first was an Xpel Air 240v fan from screwfix and the second was an icon 240v. They both ran initially perfectly before breaking. There is a 3 core cable consiting of red, blue and yellow.
What could cause this fault? Could wiring the negative and the switched live in reverse do this?
I'm at a complete loss with this, and cant afford to break another fan, any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Alex
