Without causing major disruption to the internal rooms of the house I am considering runing the cable from the loft space to the consumer unit in the garage via the external gable wall. However im unsure what the correct conduit casing should be and if im allowed to do it this way. Anybody advise please......cheers Mark.[/list]

I would suggest you get a qualified electrician in, no dissrespect but not DIY work. BE SAFE.

You say allowed so I’ll start with that.
Any new supply from the consumer unit in England and Wales needs Part P notification and most Councils have a fixed fee which means DIY can cost more than getting an electrician to do the job.
The regulations are advisory but not following them will mean you may have problems getting the work signed off by LABC inspector so in real terms you have to follow them.
It does no say how you need to protect and twin and earth clipped to an outside wall out of direct sunlight could very well pass if there is nothing likely to damage the cable.
But in most cases any cable used outside will be black to resist UV light.
Although you could use plastic conduit pulling twin and earth through conduit is not easy and I would consider using steel wire armoured cable then no further protection would likely be required.
But this needs glands and again not sure how a DIY person would fair using this cable.
There are other options of course from the Ali-tube cable to the braded steel cable and to select a cable without being on site is not really something I can do it is far too easy to miss something.
And at end of the day it’s not what is required but what the person signing the completion cert will accept and I would ask them for their advice. That way you can’t go wrong.
