Hi everyone, I'm a DIY Doctor newbee so here goes.

I'm changing over all my light sockets, and wanted to add some dimmers.

I'd like to know if i can dim those picture lights, the long thin strip tubes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, if they are normal filament type not fluorescent then yes you can fit standard dimmers,

you wouldn't happen to know the life expentancy of bulbs on dimmers would you ?

I've heard that it's as if you turn the swith on & off really quickly, that's why they eat bulbs quicker.

Hi Rob,

They only switch on/of at same rate as normal ie 100 times/sec.
only difference being that they are switched on later through each 1/2 cycle thus allowing less energy through so don't run so hot.
Never noticed shortened life but may be so,
