Hi I want to know how straight forward it is to refit a fitting in my bathroom. The light bulb fitting wires in the ceiling rose are black and red. The new fitting will obviously have the new coloured wiring. Do I fit the Black to blue and red to brown also if there's a earth in the new fitting where do I attach this if there's no earth in the old fitting. I hope this makes sense,Thanks

yep, your right ... black goes to blue and red goes to brown. If you have to earth your new light fitting and there is no existing earth wire in the bathroom light you need to run a seperate earth from the new light to another junction on the lighting circuit that has an earth connected. ( if you can try and ensure this earth is connected to your CU (consummer unit- fuse box ) If your new bathroom light is not double insulated or IP rated make sure you fit it in the correct zone aswell as earthing it... Hope this makes sense

If no earth at old fitting then 2 ways to go, either install earth from mains or use double insulated light that does not require earthing,

Thanks Is earthing from the mains as you've described, a job for an electrician or can a non professional do it, what is involved? Also are the double insulated light fitting readily available.Thanks.

double insulated equipment very common it has a symbol that looks like a square inside a square, if running new earth conductor get an electrician, as all circuit conductors must run together so need someone who knows what they are doing
