Hi,
I am replacing an old Kitchen light with a new replacement and am a little confused as to where the wires are supposed to go. I am aware of the change in colours etc but I seem to have too many.

The new light has a blue and brown connection together with earth

From the ceiling I have:

2 black
1 black with a small section of red covering
3 red that are already entwined together for one connection.
1 earth

1 black cable is loose
1 black and red is loose
1 black is connected to N
Earth is connected
3 red are entwined to connection

Any ideas?

Hi Spin_32
The reds stay together should be in a seperate connection block on there own.
The black with red tag goes to brown side of light fitting.
The other blacks go to blue side of light fitting
Earths to earth terminal should have more than one though check in ceiling void see if you have missed any.
Be safe and isolate circuit.

Thanks Kbrownie,
Yeah everything was done as you instructed in addition to the project pictures I found on this site but still didnt work. Kept blowing the fuses. Anyway got so annoyed with it I tracked down an electrician and it turned out that somehow a wire higher up had become trapped in the new light fitting, cut the wire cover which was then touching some metal and shorting the whole system. All good now.

Thanks

Anyway lucky escape and your lights are working now, thanks for update.
