I Have just replaced the worktops in my kitchen and have discovered that the stainless steel sink and pipes are not earth bonded. I can get back to an earth bond terminal in adjacent room but only with some difficulty. Is it acceptable to connect to a nearby earth terminal eg a nearby wall socket? Also what size earth cable is current requirement?

There has been no requirement to bond a domestic kitchen sink and pipework since the 16th edition came out and we are now on the 17th.
If you really want to 4mm earth wire between earth clamps on the pipes and up to the sink will be fine - but you do not have to do it.
In any event pipework should not be bonded to the electrics - do NOT connect to a nearby wall socket.
HTH
Cheers
Removed additional "not" as it was confusing.
