shower electrics problem

had shower installed a few years ago,using a pull cord switch in the bathroom. i now need to change this as it has broken. however i have noticed that the 10mm cable comes into the switch and another one going out to the shower. these are thick cables into the small holes of the switch connector, making it very difficult to fit a new switch . would it be possible and easier to install a junction box with just one cable coming to the switch, connected in a similar way to a light with a switch , if this is poss what kind of junction box would be needed.........thanks ,geoff

Your shower pull cord will be a different configuration than a normal switch as it has supply and load terminals. So junction box would not help The shower pullcords rated at 45 amps are designed to take 10mm cable. Persevere with it.

Hi,
although that would work regs insist on double pole isolation ie L&N not just live.
try getting a 50A pull switch from a wholesaler, with a deep box for more room.
eg, MK3164 + MK K2031 from say QVS @£14 +tax the pair,

I suspect that you are trying to use a lighting ceiling switch(10amp) in place of a 45amp double pole ceiling switch.
The latter will easily accept 10mm cables. do not do anything other than like for like replacement as this would be a serious fire risk.

10ml is, however, a nightmare to work with! pre shape your cables before trying to push the switch onto the patress and use a deep box. don't be tempted to use the screws to pull the faceplate on, it will break.
