HI ALL, MY PROBLEM IS, I HAVE A LOFT CONVERSION , SO I RECENTLEY TOOK DOWN THE WALL LIGHT ON THE STAIRS TO REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER ONE, YES YOU GUESSED IT CAN NOT REMEMBER THE CONECTIONS. SO THERE IS A SWITCH IN THE BEDROOM FOR THE BEDROOM AND HALL AND A SWITCH FOR THE HALL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS.

THE WIRING ON THE STAIRS IS 1 X EARTH 2 X BLACK 1 X RED

THE NEW LIGHT FIXTURE IS 1 X EARTH 2 X BROWN 2 X BLUE

So it's a wall light rather than a ceiling light and is controlled via two switches.
Is it the existing cables that are 2 blue 2 brown or are you also talking about cables on light fitting.
I'm assuming that recent loft con has been wired up new and this is also colours at upstairs switch and cables are looped in to supply loft lighting.
If so I would connect the two browns together without anything else in a termination block and then ideally the blue switch wire(should have brown sleeving on cable) to brown flex (live/line) on fitting and the neutral blue to blue flex side (neutral of fitting).
earth to earth terminal.

Presumably the one in the bedroom is 2 gang and the one one the stairs is one gang??
Ignore earths as the are common, do not affect the swtching arrangements.

hi thanks for your replies for some reason i had a problem accessing them??

anyway the wiring from the wall must be old as i say their are 2xblack 1xearth 1xred and the new fitting is 2xbrown 2xblue 1xearth,

the bedroom is a 2 gang and the stairs is a 1 gang

What fitting have you got, where are the two blues and browns coming from, does the the fitting have two lamps on it and these cables are coming from them individually? and what relationship to new loft conversion does this circuit have as the cables in the wall are old colours, so no new circuit was been used to power wall lights? Is there only one wall light being operated by the switch?
I need some clarity before I can help.

For the wall light, try 2existing blacks to 2 blues of wall light, single red to 2 browns of wall light, all earths to a common terminal.
