Double Sockets

by Basil20 » Sun May 27, 2007 7:01 pm

Hi Everyone
Is it safe to replace my double sockets in my house with chrome one's
as there doesn't appear to have the usual earth wire, there is just a small earth wire going from the metal box (behind the double sockets) to the earth terminal in the sockets
the circuit is in metal conduit, is it ok or will i leave well alone.

hi basil

ok sounds like the metal conduit is being used as the earth in this case it would be prudent to get in a sparks to carry out an earth loop test and confirm that there is a good earth along the conduit if the readings are acceptable then you can put the new sockets on as long as you earth the metal front plate of the socket.
