Hello,

Can someone please advise me if you can run electrics in the wall horizontally?

I was always under the imporession that if you run a cable horizontally it could not be chased into the wall it has to be visual.

You can providing certain requirements are met as follows;
1) cable burried at least 50mm from wall surface, be careful with this one as I recommend the wall should be 150mm thick if you follow building control guidelines regarding effecting the wall structure, one third of walls depth allowed to be chased.
2) cable is earthed armoured or earthed metal sheathed
3) cable run within earthed metal containment (trunking/conduit.
4) be provided with mechanical protection or
5) within the permitted areas and that would be in this case, directly between accessories, so for example the cable between two sockets on a wall can run between them. (There is 150mm tolerance) and have RCD protection
I'd recommend RCD protection on all circuits if upgrading your installation

Hi you certainly can run chases horizontally BETWEEN outlets or switches so it is obvious they may be there.
You cannot however run vert, then change direction to hor. except at a fitting.
Only difference between vert.&hor. is max depth much less for hor. also not forgetting all chased in cables must have RCD protection unless screened with earth metalic covering,

Needed to check as I have taken my tiles off in the kichen and the sockets run like this, so needed to check it was ok.
