replacing a ceiling rose with a new light fitting

We are replacing a ceiling rose with a new light fitting. We did not check the wiring before we removed the old ceiling rose as it's usually quite simple. But this time we have a wire we have no idea where it goes. The light is in the lounge where we have two ceiling lights operated by one switch. One light fitting is simple, but the other light fitting is more difficult as the old ceiling rose has an extra wire which is grey, we have no idea where this goes. We took a random guess but blow the fuse box. Any ideas?

Is there anything else that is powered by switch look in switch plate to see if the grey wire appears in there.
Give details of new fitting terminals/connections and cables you have to terminate from ceiling void, colour cores and if they a paired or grouped in grey pvc and do you know which is the switch wire normally has a red or brown tape/insulation sleeve on it. Could by a black or blue cable.
