I would like to install a motor to open my attic trap door, the door is quite large at approx 2m x 1m and opens up into the attic space, I will need to have switches to open and close it below and above so wondered if this is actually posssible? Also any surgestions on the type of motor I should be looking at would be much appreciated. I'm fine doing 2-way lighting but this seems a little complicated, still any surgestions most welcome.

hi,
the motor and it's connections limits etc will depend upon what's available to you, it will need some gearing/drive system and if you are handy with mechanics I would have a look at a car window drive mechanism, many have a curved segment gear which would suit an arc-hinge movement of your door.
This could be powered via a cheap 230 /12V power supply unit or even battery charger, you could then have controls/limits etc at 12v instead of mains.
Controls will need to be wired with limit switches and could be 'interesting'
Suggest you sort out what you are going to use and ropost,
regards Sparx

try this site-

Google "techdrives.co.uk/html/light_duty_actuators_to_6000n.html"

a light duty actuator might do the trick, you might have to make brackets ect
