I have mixed a dimmer switch with an ordinary switch in a 2 way circuit but the ordinary switch is buzzing and is giving off a slight plastic smell?

Should I have used 2 dimmers in this situation?

No only one dimmer should be used. Sounds like loose connection in standard switch likely now needs renewing.
