Cooker Control Unit.

Hi,

Does any one know whether the regulation that the oven control unit has to be within 2m of the oven relates to max. cable length or if it's as the crow flies?

I'm fitting an oven and electric hob over in an island in the new kitchen. I propose to site the control unit on the wall nearest to the island, which is at a distance of approx. 1.5m away. But the cable has to come from the control unit, down the wall, in conduit under the yet-to-be-screeded floor, and up inside the kitchen unit of the island. So the total cable run will longer than 2m.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi , no probs. it not about cable lenghts but obout being able to 'kill' supply in emergency/fire etc, which is why you can't put sw. too close to oven, you don't want to reach through flames to sw. off!
1.5M ideal distance as 'arms reach' when using, and out of harms way in emergency!, regards SPARX
