RCD's

Can I have as many switches as I like on my RCD? For example, can I have one for each plug socket, as opposed for one for all plug sockets? Also, if this is possible, would it take much work in rewiring?

Hi Kristian,
If you mean to have one MCB per socket then yes you can, that's a radial circuit for each, which is how we used to wire sockets before some genius devised the 'ring' circuit we use mainly now.
Incidently there is a move back to radial or tree circuits as per continental practice.
It does mean a total rewire & a much larger consumer unit though!
As for the RCD as a main switch they can be capable of carrying up to 100Amps load but still will trip if earth leakage current approaches 30mA, as thats their prime function, not overload protection!
hope this is helpful, regards,SPARX

hey, If you want all of your sockets to be RCD protected without rewiring, or just some selected sockets. Any good retailer will sell a socket with an integrated RCD. ie, the test and reset button are on the individual socket.
