Garage consumer unit to light switch to fluorescent light

by Paul Drummer » Sat Aug 07, 2010 12:57 pm

I am trying to wire the fluorescent light I have bought to the consumer unit, via a wall mounted light switch.
I have wired the light straight to the consumer unit and all is ok.
I have put the wires to the switch from the consumer unit and switched on and again, all ok.

When I put both sets of wires to the switch, it trips. grounds are good.

Any help will be appreciated!!

Paul.

When selecting a switch did you get a double pole switch? Many switches look similar but are very different. An intermediate switch looks very like a double pole switch.

There is nothing in what you have said that gives any clues as to what you have done wrong.

If the garage is feed from the house this could well be notifiable work under Part P.
