extra wire in ceiling rose

by george99 » Wed Jun 13, 2007 8:57 pm

I recently installed a new ceiling light, fixing the 9 supply wires to the four terminals in the terminal box as instructed (3 earth wires to the earth terminal, 2 black to N, 3 red to LOOP and 1 black [live] to L). However, there was an unexpected 10th wire in the rose - the extra one was grey and I simply insulated it. It works fine, but there is now no supply to the one remaining onward light in the conservatory. What should the 10th wire have been connected to?

Hi, how was conserv. light switched b4?, if it came on with ceiling light then it prob. goes in with sw, live (blk), If seperate sw. then it could be it needs to go with Reds,...BUT BE careful! Is it really grey, or could it be a cream/off-white? in which case it could be a telephone Earth wire which BT were fond of picking up from nearest point.....
It seems out of place as no other NEW colours mentioned, and 1 wire won't a circuit make!!!
