Power is there but no water, read somewhere most likely solenoid or pressure build up in showerhead, checked showerhead so most likely internal problem

This is the shower I have.

Question: Is it just a case of purchasing a shower then connecting up to old shower connections or do I have to buy a specific model, i.e. another gainsborough shower. On their site it has a link to replace an old model

Not sure I want the shower they suggest wanted a more modern one.

The diagram you have linked to shows just two components that will stop the water. However the problem is water and electric don't mix and unless you know what you are doing it is so easy to get a lethal shock from a shower.

Although the Part P does say like for like replacement is permitted the electrical regulations do expect one to do tests which without expensive equipment can't be done.

I would suggest that you don't DIY this job.
