HI
CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF SWA CABLE NEEDS TO TO GO TO A JUNCTION BOX FIRST THEN TWIN AND EARTH TO CONSUMER UNIT?
CONSIDERING EARTHING OF SWA USING THE CORRECT GLAND I PRESUME THIS IS THE WAY TO DO IT? (AND NOT SWA DIRECT TO CONSUMER UNIT)
CHEERS

hi, no reason other than visual asthetics not to go direct to con.unit. even a plastic one if using correct gland plate or better still 'Piranha-P-Nut' earthing nut with tail
(google 'piranha earth nuts)

As Sparx says you can go direct even into plastic however I have in the past found problem where the SWA has put strain on the plastic and warped it. I have used either an adaptable box or a metal clad socket box with plain lid and a tube nut or two to join the box to consumer unit purely to remove strain from consumer unit. Normally I would then take the inner onto consumer unit stripping back only part inside the consumer unit.
The earth is a big issue and Sparx has likely best option. Do remember to used brass earth bolts not steel on banjo if that is main earth. If using a core as an earth not really a problem. Also remember 4mm is min size for external earth links.
