double light switch for 2 seperate lights.

please help,I have changed from a single light switch to a double switch to use on 2 seperate lights.the double switch has com.L1.L2.top and bottom.the wires I have are 2red.2blue.2earth.how do I wire these up.
so what I am doing is adding an extra light.thank you.

One pair red and black to com at top and L1 at bottom.
Second pair com bottom L1 top.
L2's are not used. However if switch works wrong way changing from L1 to L2 will swap which way is off and on.
The earth to terminal on backing box if there is one. If not just tape up.

hi ericmark,I tried what you said but it still does not work,the one light works,(the original one)but the new light will not work,what I did not mention was. The second light is an outside security light.thank you.

I am guessing that some one has tried to connect a second lamp to the light switch rather than the ceiling rose.
There is no neutral at the light switch so one can't take a supply from the switch.
