Hi, Can someone tell me how to rewire my bathroom pull cord to an external wall mounted switch.

I have drilled through the wall and want to put a dimmer switch on the outside of the batroom but am not sure how to isolate the pull cord at the ceiling and rewire.

Pictures would be great if possible

Not an electrician as you will have gathered.

Thanks in advance.

Duncan.

There is no standard wiring for a pull cord. With a wall switch it is normal to use the ceiling rose not only as a supply to the lamp but also as a junction box in order to reduce the amount of cable between each lamp in the radial circuit.

However with a pull cord it would not reduce the wire used so may not follow that convention.

Also once moved one will need to measure the impedance and submit the results to the local authority building control under Part P building regulations and the hire of the meters and LABC fees are likely to be around £200 which is likely more than you will be charged but a registered electrician to do the whole job.

So why bother to DIY.
