Light fitting

by Peter C » Sat Mar 10, 2007 10:03 am

Hi

I have a ceiling rose just as shown in your lights page - two reds two blacks and an earth - but my BHS light fitting has a plastic box with just three holes on the other side out of which come a brown, blue and earth

Do I put the two red in opposite the brown and blacks opposite the blue or what?

See the project on replacing a light fitting Peter. Your light switch interupts the live feed to the light so the live (brown) cable of your light fitting goes to waht is called the switch live in the rose. Effectively the power comes from the feed, through the switch, to the light and back to complete the circuit. The wires coming out of the switch should actually be red as both are, when the switch is on, live. 99.9% of the time one of them is black as normal circuit cable is used, this cable should be tagged with red tape to show it is live.
