Hi there both is the sensible answer ,how might be ur ? .Ok
Earth wire from ( lets call it a socket cable ) goes to earth point in back of socket box ( patress ) . Then pinch a little length of earth cable and attach a ' flying earth ' from that same point to earth connnection on new fitting ( remember that both earths must be covered with green and yellow shroud .( pick up from any good local shed) hope this helps ..( remember to turn off electric power to said socket before hand .sorry if sucking eggs.) Regards and be safe Jeff

Hi. You will have either 2 cables if it is a ring,or 1 if it is a spur. Take a piece of earth wire which would be1.5mm if the live conductor is 2.5mm cable; attach it to the earth terminal on the metal knockout box then insert it with the earths from the cables to the earth terminal of the socet. This is called a fly lead and will provide an extra earthing point.
