This is just a curiosity question.Just been reading a book by Mike Lawrence called Wiring & lighting. In the glossary section it quotes 'IEE WIRING REGULATIONS' - Guide lines for safe electrical installation practice. They are issued by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, but do NOT have any legal force(except in Scotland)----- Can anyone shed any light about not having any legal force or is quote out of date

Hi Andyb,
Interesting play on words here, I don't know how old book is but basically the IEE regs were not legally binding, just best practice, but for some while now the havebeen a British Standard [BS 7671-2002] so in fact still not legally binding,BUT if an accident occurs & guidelines not followed then courts will treat as if illegal installation.
This was one reason why Part P was added to bldg regs which are legally binding, BW
