This is just a curiosity question.Just been reading a book by Mike Lawrence called Wiring & lighting. In the glossary section it quotes 'IEE WIRING REGULATIONS' - Guide lines for safe electrical installation practice.They are issued by the Institution of Electrical Engineers,but do NOT have any legal force(except in Scotland)----- Can anyone shed any light about not having any legal force or is quote out of date

Interesting play on words here, I don't know how old book is but basically the IEE regs were not legally binding, just best practice, but for some while now the havebeen a British Standard [BS 7671-2002] so in fact still not legally binding,BUT if an accident occurs & guidelines not followed then courts will treat as if illegal installation.
This was one reason why Part P was added to bldg regs which are legally binding, BW

Thanks for the reply. It does seem that its OK for anyone to do anything in their own house until it goes wrong!

Hi agn. Andyb, or untill you want to sell & can't produce test certs. partp registration card etc, u take a chance also if found to have done PartP work even in your own home of facing huge fine & even jail!!!!
