I recently had a 12v transformer die due to hungry mices -
mices have now left the building and I want to replace the transformer but
I see it has 3 x spot lights running from it. Is this correct or should I have
a transformer for each spot light?

Cheers

The transformer will have a VA ratting as long as the total of all three lamps watts does not exceed the VA on the transformer then no problem.

Transformers are not used much any more the switched mode power supply has replaced them. With a power supply there will be both a min and a max rating. The min must be lower than a single lamp and the max higher than all three lamps.

Note as far as you need to know VA and Watts are the same thing.
