How can I get Fuse out of Socket After Cooker Stopped Working Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Hello everyone,

I'm sure to many of you this might sound like a pretty stupid question, but I would really appreciate some advice. I do have basic DIY knowledge and so far I've always been able to fix things on my own, but are now having a more than simple problem.......... I cant get this fuse out of its socket.

Recently our cooker stopped working and I assume that I need to replace the fuse beside it, but I'm having a hard time simply getting it out of its socket. I can lift it with a screwdriver and it comes out a little bit, but is then completely stuck. It feels like it will break apart if I pull more...

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this kind of fuse not supposed to be taken out that way?

Trying to avoid having to call an electrician for something that minor and I'm feeling embarassed not being able to fix this...

Hi winck

Yes, it should just pull out. Some only pull out a small distance, then the fuse is removed from the side of the holder. But it's unlikely that replacing a fuse is going to answer the problem. Fuses blow for a reason, and that reason needs to be found.

It makes me confident enough to say that there must be something wrong with the way the fuse is installed, since I cant even get it out a distance that could make it possible to pull the fuse out on the side.. It all feels slightly sketchy. Never saw such a fuse before and I was starting to believe I have no clue what I'm doing...

But as you mentioned changing the fuse alone wont fix the problem. The cooker is still under warranty, so I guess thats the way to go.
