Hi- I have run a cable from the main fuse board on its own 32Amp MCB. I have tried both 2W switch socket and a 1W switch socket. On both occasions 240V AC were present on the sockets and the on/off switches functioning correctly with no problem, however as soon as a load (Fridge and drill) is placed on the socket the RCB trips. Any advice much appreciated. Many Thanks.

ANY OUTSIDE WORK IS PART P NOTIFIABLE AND MUST BE
DONE BY A REGISTERED ELECTRICIAN .
I ADVISE U GET ONE IN.
YOU HAVE A FAULT POSSIBLY NEUTRAL TO EARTH.
IS NEUTRAL ON RCD NEUTRAL BAR ?
BEST GET SOMEONE IN.

I have just had a Sparky in and paid through the nose to have the Dist board changed and I thought £160 to drill 2 holes and clip 4 metres of cabling (supplied) and add a socket really taking the mickey. How hard can it be ??????
Please would you mind explaining IS NEUTRAL ON RCD NEUTRAL BAR ? in idiots speak?

Currently live to top of MCB, Neutral along side the others and the same with the earth. R'ds

WITH A SPILT BOARD U HAVE 2 NEUTRAL BARS ONE FROM
THE MAIN SWITCH SIDE AND ONE FROM THE RCD SIDE.
SOMTIMES A RCD CIRCUIT NEUTRAL CAN BE BY MISTAKE
CONNECTED TO THE NEUTRAL BAR OF THE MAIN SWITCH
SIDE. TRIPPING OCCURS BECAUSE OF IMBALANCE
DETECTED ON RCD SIDE.
AVERAGE MAINS BOARD FROM £ 45 UP.
DEPENDING ON TIME TO INSTALL. ( LABOUR ON TOP )
THEN HE HAS 2 ISSUE CERTS AND NOTIFY HIS SCHEME PROVIDER 4 PART P TO COMPLY WITH AUTHORITYS PART P.
NOT A BAD PRICE. I ASSUME HE HAS ALSO RECTIFIED YOUR FAULT.

Tks BLAKEY you may be on to something will try your advice tomorrow if that fails I will call another Sparky. Not sure if I read your post correctly but I paid over £500 for the Dist board work (materials supplied) and 1.5 days safety check which resulted in a switch being replaced upside down, socket shorting as no gromits used on back plate and bulb popped in kitchen and he left leaving the baynot fixing in the rose and finally did not wire the kitchen spur in the board and asked me if I could do it to save him coming back out.....!!
£160 was just for the shed run.
Try to do the right thing but always seem to end up with a "BAD UN" which does nothing for the creditabilty of tradesman trying to make a honest living.
