About ten years back we bought a new "marble" fireplace" and had an inset Brilliant gas fire fitted. Unfortunately as we now know it was fitted with a Lithium battery, the replacement costs of which are around £65, and they do not seem to last that long for their price. As to the fire, whereas it was recommended to us enthusiastically, now the manufacturer is unfavoured for its service (unreliable delivery times etc).
Having made calculations on the unit costs, efficiency and service costs of each, I am thinking of replacing with a similar inset electric fire within the fireplace. A new spur would need running and I would not wish to have the fireplace drilled into, but the plug and cable concealed.
Is that likely to be possible and at what cost. I am based on Hants Dorset border.
