Extending Very Tight Wall Socket

I have a double wall socket in the hall but I have noticed that the face plate does not screw well to the back plate. i thought the back plate might be damaged or loose but on closer inspection it looks like the live and neutral that feed a spur are very very tight with no slack. So, is it OK to use a plastic terminal block to extend the cables by a few cms. Alternatively, I seem to remember seeing a double socket that has twin terminals for the live, neutral and earth which would also solve the problem. The ones I find on Google only have a single terminal and some have 2 earth terminals.
Thanks for any help.
