Replacing a Wall Light With a Flush Steampunk Fixture

Hi there.
So I'm simply replacing the existing wall lights on my brick wall with new steampunk fixtures. My problem is that the steampunk fixture is meant to sit flush with the wall. The steampunk fixture comes with it's own tiny junction box inside which there is a small connector block to attach the existing main feed. My problem is that as you can see in the photos, the part of the light fixture where the wire comes out is small in diameter so I need to create a recess in the wall that is small enough to be covered by the light fixture when it is fixed to the wall yet deep enough to accomodate the connection to the main feed via this small junction box they've provided. There's no way I can make a hole in the wall that is deep enough so I'm wondering if anyone else had a suggestion to get around this problem? Obviously if it were drywall the problem wouldn't exist! Hopefully the image links will work.
Thanks
